Guardian has been around for a long time.  Founded in 1950 they have continued to adapt their features and now offer life safety, home automation and security cameras along with the standard security system.  While companies like ADT home security and LifeShield have been bought out multiple times, Guardian has grown steadily over the years without ever being acquired.  This means you still get the very personal attention from customer service that you may not get in a large corporate company.

Their primary monitoring station is in Pennsylvania where it is staffed 24/7.  They have extended customer support hours from 7 am to midnight daily.  They continue to offer professional installation which is highly recommended whereas many new home security systems are self-install only.  If you get installed by a dealer you can also rest assured that they are licensed professionals and have gone through all the business procedures in order to partner with Guardian.

This one is up to you.  We have read through several negative and positive customer reviews about them.  The contract termination fee is 20% which you will want to consider if moving and signing their long 5 year contract.  There isn’t anything special or mind-blowing with them but they are a reputable company.  If you want to get above average then we suggest you compare them to others.

Great Pyranees: 

This dog was originally bread to keep sheep and other livestock safe from wolves, bears, or other predators in the wilderness. XFINITY Secure 300 & 350 System Prices

Higher starting costs with average monitoring monthly fees

Prices vary depending on if you plan to bundle with other Comcast services.  The ‘Secure 350’ system they offer starts at $50 a month, which means that after 6-12 months prices could go up as well.  The Secure 350 package is needed for larger homes and those wanting home automation.  There are several better deals available at that price.  The 300 package is more basic and affordable, a better option for the average consumer.

Regardless of what package you choose expect to pay $99 installation fee and a possible $99 activation fee.  Monitoring costs will be between $40-60 depending on their current promotions.  Just remember that after 6-12 months your monthly price will most likely go up.

Most of the equipment is wireless.  The control panel, cameras, and smart thermostats will require connecting to a power source and possible drilling holes in the wall to connect wiring.  The security camera they offer is not a pan-tilt camera.  Meaning, users cannot turn it right and left using a smartphone.  Their door sensors and motion sensors have a small red light indicator that will light up if triggered.  The control panel is a touchscreen and functions much like a tablet.  Motion detectors, door and window sensors along with their unique touchscreen control panel (compare it to Vivint sky here).  Must pay out-of-pocket for most advanced equipment (cameras, smart thermostat).

Smart home automation integration:  If you’re looking for companies who can match or do better than Xfinity Home’s automation equipment, check out Frontpoint Security who has a great alarm system at an affordable rate. 

What it takes to get their security system up and going

Set a date and the van will show up — not a DIY installation

Don’t count on them being on time… 

Schedule: They will set up a 2-hour time frame for installation.

Installation:  This is where they get a lot of bad reputation. Anything from broken door frames to faulty sensors has been reported. Now that they have a few years under their feet things should improve on this end but expect delays or mistakes from the technician.

All Set: All equipment is wireless unless you paid extra for some hard-wired home automation equipment.  The tech will teach you how to use the security system, set up a verbal password, and show you how to control it with your smartphone. Make sure you are present when the technician has completed the job so you can see how to run the alarm system.

The touchscreen controller was the only component of the system we purchased that could be installed by you. But since all of our other parts required professional installation, we chose to leave everything in the hands of the experts to simplify your life. The expert came and installed everything for us while we sat back and relaxed, testing each component along the way. However, even though we paid a little over $100 for installation, the cost will vary depending on your equipment and where you live.

First of all, Alarm.com is NOT a home security company.  They are a white label mobile app service FOR home security companies.  This provides the service to turn on and off the alarm system, not monitor it.  Founded in 2000 they were later acquired in 2009 for $27 million by ABS.  They are a ‘turnkey’ solution, great for startup security companies who can’t integrate their own app control with existing security equipment.  Dozens of companies use them with their personal business logo on it.  You may not even know you are using the Alarm.com app!  Before digging deeper into how it works, what you can control lets take a look at the good and bad of Alarm.com.
